Wall hangings are perfect for designs and finished cross stitch pieces that
are an unusual size and would be costly to have a custom frame made for them.
For this project, you will need:
Before you begin to cross stitch the design, please note the finished design size is 3.5” wide and 10” long. Make sure to position the design in the center of the cloth, keeping it 10” wide and 14” long. Once the design has been cross stitched, the cloth will be folded in half and the sides sewn together.
Cross stitch your pattern as normal. Fold the aida cloth lengthwise, so that the right and left sides touch, and the wrong side of the design faces out. Sew the sides together, leaving ½” for the seam. Turn the cross stitched piece right side out and fold it flat, with the design centered in the front and the seam centered in the back. Do a zigzag stitch at the top and bottom to prevent fraying. Fold the top back two inches and pin in place. Fold the bottom back two inches and pin in place. Stitch the top and bottom ends in place, being careful to only stitch them to the back of the aida cloth without going through to the front piece. Finally, slip one decorative rod in place at the top and one at the bottom.
