Homemade
Christmas ornaments are truly one of a kind and you won't find them anywhere
else. That uniqueness makes them special and the tree they decorate even
more special. You can keep them for yourself or give them away as a gift
that will be treasured forever. Either way, they're an easy project that
you'll have lots of fun making. Here's how.
First, gather all the supplies that you will need. These supplies include:
Start by cutting your fabric into 6 squares, with each square measuring 3 inches x 3 inches. The next step is to sew all of the squares together, leaving 1/2 inch for the hem allowance. Look at the diagram below and use it as a guide to help you place the squares together in the right order.
When
sewing the squares together, always line them up first with the squares
facing right side up. This will help you to figure out where to place the
next square and what edges to sew together. Once you have those two items
figured out, then turn the squares with the right side facing each other and
sew.
We will be starting with the bottom of the Christmas Present Ornament. Following the diagram, we will be sewing one edge from each of the squares numbered 2-5 to the bottom piece. Here is the order to sew them together in:
The next step is to sew the sides of the Christmas Present Ornament together. If you fold the side squares up, you can see how the edges line up together. Here is the order to sew them together in:
Now, we are ready to sew the top on to the Christmas Present Ornament. If you hold the top square over the other squares, you can see how these edges line up together. At this point, only three of those edges will be sewn together, as there is one more step to do before you can finish sewing. Here is the order to sew the top to 3 of the other squares:
You are almost done. The last step is to turn the ornament inside out and fill it with stuffing. You can use as much stuffing you like; the more you use, the more full and firm the ornament will be. Once you are happy with the amount of stuffing in the ornament, you are ready to sew the last edges together. Do this by turning the edges over to the inside of the box and then hand sew them shut. Finally, use a piece of ribbon to tie around the ornament, as if it were an old fashioned Christmas present. Leave a loop at the end of the ribbon, which can be used to hang the ornament on your Christmas tree.
Now that you have made one, if you like, you can make several Christmas Present ornaments to hang on your tree. When making these ornaments, you can make them all the same or you can make some of them different. If you want the ornaments to be different, here are a few ways you can do that:
Finally, if you like, you can add a tag on to the ornaments, just like a real present. Best of all, since these ornaments are made from fabric, they won't break if your tree is knocked over by the pets or the kids!
