Harris Tweed Rib Stitch Gift Bag Project Instructions
The
harris tweed rib stitch is very simple to do and produces a lovely pattern
that will spruce up any knitting project.
This little gift bag is the perfect size to hold DVD's, Blue Ray's or
CD's. It's quick to do and makes any gift that much more special
because it came from the heart.
Supplies Needed:
- One pair of knitting needles, size 6.5 mm (US 10 1/2);
- Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice yarn, 100g/3.5 oz, Kelly Green;
- Scissors;
- Plastic darning needle; and
- Black ribbon.
Instructions:
- Cast on 50 stitches.
- Rows 1-3: Knit
- Row 4: [Knit two together, yarn over, knit 1]. Repeat stitches in
brackets. Knit 2.
- Rows 5-7: Knit
- Row 8: Knit 2, [Purl 2, Knit 2] Repeat stitches in brackets to the
end of row.
- Row 9: Purl 2 [Knit 2, Purl 2]. Repeat stitches in brackets to the
end of row.
- Row 10: Knit
- Row 11: Purl
- Row 12: Knit 2, [Purl 2, Knit 2] Repeat stitches in brackets to the
end of row.
- Row 13: Purl 2 [Knit 2, Purl 2]. Repeat stitches in brackets to the
end of row.
- Row 14: Purl
- Row 15: Knit
- Repeat rows 8 – 15 four times.
- Bind off.
- The final step in making the gift bag is to join the bottom and one
side of the knitted piece together. To figure out which side is the top
and which side is the bottom, look at the rows. The top of the bag will
be the first 7 rows you stitched and the bottom is the other end. Next,
fold the bag in half, with the right sides facing each other. From the
ball of yarn that you were using, cut a long piece. Use a darning needle
and sew the bottom and the side together. Turn the gift bag inside out.
Finally, run a long piece of ribbon through the eyelets at the top of
the bag and tie the ends together.
