This
project is a fun one that's good for both kids and adults. It involves
taking plain wooden boxes and decorating them so that they become beautiful.
The finished project can then be used to give gifts in, used to hold candies
or chocolates, or just for decoration. Here's how to get started.
Materials Needed:
Start with a wooden box. It can be any size, depending on what you want to use it for. Next, lay out some newspaper for easy clean up. You are now ready to paint and give the first touches of life to your box. Before you start to paint, make sure that the paint colour and the embellishments that you choose will work well together. It is probably easier to choose the embellishment first and then match it with a paint colour - but that doesn't mean that you have to do it in that order. Choose the colours and embellishments that you like - that is all that matters!
Once you are ready, use the foam paint brush to apply the paint. The larger the box, the larger the foam brush that you can use. The great thing about foam brushes is that they allow you to apply paint quickly and easily. After you have finished painting, allow the box to completely dry.
The great thing about acrylic paints is that they clean up easily with just some soap and water. Remember to clean your brush as soon as you finish your project, so that the paint doesn't have a chance to dry. Once you have cleaned your brush, let it air dry and it'll be ready for you to use on your next project!
Once your box is dry, you're ready to add the finishing touches. Start by adding the embellishments. These can be of any size and made from any material you like. In the picture, you can see that I choose to add one large wooden embellishment to the smaller box. For the larger box, I choose to add a few metallic shaped butterflies. The embellishments are key - they will set the theme and feeling associated with the box - and the colour of the paint will help to reinforce the theme. The theme of the boxes in the picture are spring - with the embellishments (butterflies and a rabbit) and the colours (light green and yellow) helping to set that theme.
Once your embellishments have been added, the box is now ready to hold whatever you want it to. If you like, you can place some filling inside to prop up and cushion the objects the box will hold. One example of what to put in your box would be chocolates or candies to put out on the table.
Happy painting! Most importantly, enjoy your beautiful box and whatever it may be holding.
